Date: 30 May 2016, Wednesday
Time: 8:00am-10:00am

Today is the first day of Community Service Initiative class. Ms. Suja and Ms. Salvi had brief us on the module outline, projects and tasks for us to do. Two types of projects are being introduced which are animal shelter project and disabled orphanage project. I had chosen to join animal shelter project along with 26 members in a group. The reason why I chosen this project is because I had experiences in handling dog, and I had aware of animal abuse cases that frequently happen nowadays. I hope to help the dogs and cat, let them feel being cared and loved so that they can walk out from their fears. Our chosen site are LASS (Lost Animal Soul Shelter) in Kuala Selangor.

Time: 9:00am-10:30am

Our group had reached LASS shelter before 9am for the first workshop. Mr. Sam, the person in charge of LASS shelter had brief us on some rule and regulations before we approaching the dogs, and some basic knowledge about dogs' psychology and behaviors. Mr. Sam told us not to have eye contact with the dog when we entering the gate, because the dog will get curious and keep barking non-stop at us. The dogs here are special compared to other dog as many of them had experienced abused, treated badly or being torture. Thus, Mr. Sam kept reminded us to be calm and not acting too excited or nervous as the dogs are sensitive to our emotions. We had divided into team and I was helping with bathing the dogs. Another group of friends are helping with washing the dog cages. In partner, my friend and I had helped for at least 5 dogs to shower within one hour. Through this bathing session, we can see that there are two types of dogs which are: Active and happy to approach us; Fear to bath, some dogs do not allow us to approach them as they had been experienced abuse from human. I had learnt how to bath dogs properly, pat them before shower so that they would not scare of us. We end our tasks successfully. Through this workshop, I had more deeper understanding on how to handle the dogs.

we had our group meeting to discuss on the proposal and we came out with 4 steps movement that can have a long lasting impact for animals. We hope that through the Dog Adoption Campaign, it can encourage millions of potential pet lovers to make shelters the first choice and desired way for acquiring companion animals. We divided ourselves into four team which are rebranding, post card, pet shop and campaign hold in Desa Park City. I had choose to join rebranding team. Under rebranding team, we decided to design event posters, awareness poster and constantly updating the social media page while promoting Dog Adoption Campaign.

Second workshop was held today. Two weeks ago we had our first workshop with the dogs, play with them and put them to bath. The dogs are more active and friendly when they see us coming. But still, there are some dogs that still scare of us and very hard to approach them. Today our task was to bath the dogs and remove the ticks from the dogs. The ticks removed are then put into the bottles filled with chemical. We get to hold the 4 weeks old puppy. Mr. Sam told us not to produce loud sound as the puppy's ears are very sensitive. We get to learn some knowledge about handling puppy. We should adopt puppy that at least 8 weeks which had been trained by the mother dog on their own dog's rule. After the workshop, we had our group meeting on infographic poster. We need to produce one poster every two weeks and upload it into Facebook page.
Date: 14 - 22 May 2016

We had came out with the few topic of infographic poster which are: Facts of Adopting Senior Dog, Why Adopy, and How to take care of Dog. Chia Wee Min and I had chosen the topic "How to take care of Dog". I helped to find the information while Wee Min in charge of designing the poster. The three posters were uploaded to Facebook page, aid in promoting Dog Adoption Campaign. The poster are then being used for other group members to carry out the dog campaign activity and pet shop.

Besides helping with infographic poster design, I had helped in Fund Raising team by selling postcards. Through the postcards selling activity, I promote LASS Dog Adoption Campaign to the people and told them our purpose of fund raising. People are supportive towards our dog adoption program. There are total of five dogs that being adopted through the Dog Adoption Campaign, and we had successfully collected RM2050 as our fund raising for LASS shelter. Through this project, I hope we had raise some awareness in the community to adopt dog instead of buying, and show our kindness and love to the animals.
