INTERNSHIP COMPANY:

REFLECTION:
Throughout this eight week architecture internship training in VERITAS Architect Sdn. Bhd, I had the great opportunity to involved in total of 10 projects. The projects that I had involved are mostly mixed development, and the rest are hotel, office development and etc. For the first week of my internship, I involved in mostly schematic design such as 3D modeling, sketching, presentation slides preparing and also prepare preliminary project evaluations, programs and feasibility studies. This is the first time I make 3D modeling in Sketch Up but I can do it well. The 3D modeling that I had produced are used for rendering and presentation slides. From preparing presentation slides, I had learnt what are the drawings, images and information that need to be included in order to achieve good presentation. Besides, I also learnt what are Building By-Law, building set back, fire escape requirement and so on. Internship training provide me an opportunity to deepen my understanding on UBBL which I had learnt in my previous semester.
Start from week 2, I had the opportunity to attend my first Client Consultant Meeting. From this meeting, I had learnt how we as a architect communicate our ideas with client, and how we response and help our client to solve the problems. For the following weeks during my internship, I joined site meeting frequently. I grabbed the opportunities to joined Client Consultant Meeting and Site meeting from different projects. I had learnt a lot of architecture and construction knowledge from the meeting with consultants and also site visit. From the progress report discussed on site, I had understand the task on site are carried by whom and how they solved the problems facing on site. I especially learnt how important is the contractual and also different authorities. Apart from that, I had learnt what are the procedure from design stage to CCC. It is a long procedure which are from design stage, to DO (Development Order) and BP (Building Planning ) submission, to tender process, awarding, follow by construction, and completion, which will then get CCC (Certificate of Completion and Compliance). The knowledge that learnt from site visit are very practical and professional which make me more clear of the role of an Architect in construction field.
During the internship training, I had the chance to follow for the DO (Development Order) drawings submission and BP (Building Planning) drawing submission to DBKL. I had learnt different authorities and body on handling drawings submission. Besides, I had learnt that what the documents and drawings required during submission, and different types of building have different submission requirements, charging fees and etc. Moreover, I learnt that different drawings submission and different local authorities required different kind of folding. I had learnt how to fold DO submission drawings from A1 size into A4 size which needed to submit to MPSJ. Besides from that, I had chance to look on the contract documents which consists of all the tender documents and drawings. I had deepen my understanding on types of contract, such as PAM contract with Quantities (which used by our company), PAM contract without Quantities, CIDB, JKR and FIDIC. Furthermore, I have the opportunity to learnt regarding ISO. Basically I had understand deeper on what is ISO about, the purpose of ISO and what are the requirements to get an ISO certification which recognized by international.
Besides that, I had been assigned to do on detail drawings such as facade plans, section drawings, and etc. I had also helped on floor area calculations which consists of Nett area, circulation, M&E, common space, lift core, car park and etc. I learnt how to tabulate all the areas and show the final GFA (Gross Floor Area) to the client. I also helped for the podium and car park opening area calculation. I learnt that level usage components are important to show client what are the spaces in his building and most importantly the percentage of its Nett area. Besides that, I had learnt some construction award such as GBI (Green Building Index), CONQUAS quality measurement and etc.
In short, through this architecture internship training, I had learnt a lot of things. I have the chance to expose myself to real architect working environment. I learnt what is architect, what did architect do, and what is the role of architect. Besides that, I had improved my communication skills in working place. I had met and talked to lots of people from different department of my company. The people from Veritas are very friendly and willing to guide and teach us. Moreover, the office are always full of energetic and happy atmosphere. It is a very good experience for me to work in Veritas Architect. Our principal advised us to be BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal), which he wanted us to go beyond everything that has been set.
