PROJECT 1: APPLICATION OF BUILDING SERVICES

For this project, we are required to use our Degree Semester 2 studio final project as our chosen house and apply several services systems into the design. The services systems are cold and hot water supply, sewerage and sanitary system, drainage system and electricity supply. We are required to identify and apply appropriate building services system and solution for our house design. We are required to produce two A2 boards showing all these services system in appropriate diagrams and drawings which include specifications, symbols, legends, images, texts, etc. We are also need to include Uniform Building By-Law (UBBL) into the presentation boards.

Through this project, I had learnt what is the function of these services systems and how they operate throughout the house. I was able to identify relevant information related to water supply, sewerage and sanitary system, drainage system and electricity supply system. Besides, I learnt what are the components that make up the services system. I had learnt how to draw appropriate symbol of the components and also a clear schematic diagram showing the services system in the house. Besides from designing a beautiful building, I was now able to consider the location and construction of services system in my design.
PROJECT 2:
CASE STUDY AND DOCUMENTATION OF BUILDING SERVICES SYSTEM
For this project, in a group of 6, we are required to conduct a case study on medium scale building of at least 4-storey high to learn about and analyze the services systems in the building. We need to divide tasks among ourselves on following services system: mechanical ventilation, air-conditioning system, fire protection system(active and passive fire protection system) and mechanical transportation system. We had chosen Setia City Mall as our case study building. It is the first mall in Malaysia that get the GBI(Green Building Index) award. Our group had a site visit to Setia City Mall and lead by Ms. Yukeen from Setia City Mall Operation Department to visit the services room. We are require to produce an A4 bound report with two A2 board for our final findings.

Reflection:
Through this project, I had learnt what are the services systems used in public buildings. For this project, I had chosen on the mechanical ventilation part. Setia City Mall is a GBI rated building, which the car park are fully nature ventilation. The services system used in Setia City Mall are high efficient and sustainable. Besides, I had understand how the services systems function in a building, including mechanical ventilation, air-conditioning, mechanical transportation as well as fire protection systems. I had learnt how the services systems connect to the control room. I was able to explain the principles and systems as well as space implications and regulations related to different building services. A high efficiency services systems can ensure comfort, safety and sustainable to users and also environment.
Reflection(Building Services):
For Building services, firstly I had learnt about what are services systems and what are the function and importance of them. For project 1, I had learnt about simple services systems that can be found in house, such as cold and hot water supply, sewerage and sanitary system, electricity supply system and drainage system. Now, I was able to consider all these factors when designing a building. For project 2, this is the first time I had a site visit to these services room in shopping mall. This is a very good opportunity for me to learnt about how services systems are connect and placed inside a building. Next, I had learnt the important of group work during site visit. Learning from each other topic and helping each other to complete the final findings lead to a complete compilation of our report. Through this Project , I had learnt about services system in public building including mechanical ventilation, air-conditioning system, fire protection system and mechanical transportation system. Lastly, I want to thanks to all my lecturers especially to my tutor Mr. Siva and Mr. Rizal for guiding me through this semester.
