BUILDING CONSTRUCTION 2
ARC 2513
PROJECT 1: SKELETAL CONSTRUCTION "A SHELTER FOR ONE"
For this project, we are required to construct a 1:1 shelter with maximum height 1.5m and maximum base size 0.75mx0.75m by using recycle materials, and constructed to be fit for one person in a sitting position. We are required to demonstrate the knowledge of skeletal frames and its joints in our shelter and our design should be light, portable and also not overly designed. For our group, we had chosen wood pallets, plastic bottles , plywood and wire as the materials to construct the whole shelter. We used traditional wood joints to build up the structure. We are then need to produce A3 bound report complete with visual, sketches and inclusive of the detailing and progressive and explain the construction, joints and forces in the shelter.
This project is to create an understanding of skeletal structure and its relevant structural components and understand how a skeletal structure reacts under loading. Through this project, I had learnt to apply construction system in designing a shelter. I can recognize the implication of construction system in design. Besides, I was able to analyze the issues of strength, stiffness and stability of structures including modes of structural systems , forces, stress and strain and laws of static.

Through this project, I had learnt different types of structual systems used in the construction. I learnt how to identify the basic structural system in construction and compare solid and surface construction systems. I was able to differentiate solid and surface construction systems in term of loads and forces acting on structural elements. Besides, I was able to recognize and apply the implications of construction system in my design. Besides, I learnt how to analyze the issues of strength, stiffness and stability of structures including modes of structural systems, forces, stress and strain and laws of static. Individually, we are required to produce a 2D detail drawing to show part of selected building complete with annotations and specifications to show the understanding on how the building is constructed. I had chosen to do on the skeletal structure in Centre Pompidou Metz, which is the metal tower that partially support the roof.

REFLECTION:
Through this module, firstly I had learnt about solid structure, skeletal structure and surface structure used in the construction in the building. I had learnt the construction method in the different type of structure and also the load transfer in a building. For the first project, I had learnt how to use my knowledge in construction to construct a shelter that can be used for a people. Besides, for the second project, I had learnt to identify the structure systems used in a building and how the load transfer in the building. It's been a good experience to study about structure systems as this is main thing to form a whole building. Thanks to my lecturers for teaching and guiding us throughout this project.
PROJECT 2:
UNDERSTANDING FORCES IN SOLID STRUCTURE AND SURFACE STRUCTURE
GROUP
For this project, we are required to propose a building and identify the different types of structural systems used in the construction of the building. In a group of 5, we had chosen on Centre Pompidou Metz as our research building. We need to describe each structural system identified in term of function, material and load distribution. We are required to produce a model showing the structural systems used and one A4 size booklet analyze construction method, modeling process as well as detailing of different parts of the building to show how it is constructed. We are also need to include annotated sketches and diagrams to explain the forces and structural movement experienced.
