PROJECT 1: LIGHTING AND ACOUSTICS PERFORMANCE EVALUATION AND DESIGN

For this project, in a group of 6, we are required to evaluate a chosen environment in terms of lighting and acoustics performances. We had chosen Cat in the Cafe as our case study. We need to carry out appraisal of day-lighting, artificial lighting, noise and sound condition. Our group had carried a few site visit to Cat in the Cafe to ensure an accurate data collection for lighting and acoustic performance(morning, afternoon, night). We are required to present the findings based on lighting and acoustic, and submit in a A4 bound report and A3 board for each lighting and acoustics.

Reflection: 

Through this project, I was able to produce a complete documentation on analysis of space in relation to lighting requirement and analysis of factors which effects the lighting design of a space. I was able to evaluate and explore the improvisation by using current material and technology in relevance to present construction industry. Besides, I had understand lighting layout and arrangement using certain methods or calculation. Next, I had learnt the basic understanding and analysis of acoustic design layout and arrangement by using certain methods or calculations. For example are reverberation time and sound transmission coefficient.

PROJECT 2: INTEGRATION PROJECT

This project aim to integrate student's understanding of the principles of lighting and acoustics in design project of studio 5. For this project, we are required to identify spaces in our community library which require artificial lighting and day lighting. As for acoustics, we need to identify spaces to integrate external noise and internal noises. We need to incorporate visuals, diagrams and renderings using any environmental design analysis tools in presentation boards. We are required to submit 1 A2 board for lighting integrated design and 1 A2 for acoustics integrated design, and A4 report including calculation to resolve design integrations solutions.

Reflection: 

Through this project, I was able to produce site analysis which document, interpret and analyze the site context in relation to lighting and acoustics. I was able to identify and analyze functional needs through case studies to inform of lighting and acoustics. Next, I was able to show understanding of lighting and acoustics principles in studio design. I learnt to take lighting and acoustics requirement into consideration when designing the spaces in my community library, and take it as part of the design elements. I was now able to solve design problem in relation to sustainability issues.
