PROJECT 1: FETTUCCINE TRUSS BRIDGE
For this project, we are required to design and construct a fettuccine bridge of 350mm clear span and maximum weight of 80g. Other than aesthetic value, the design of the bridge must be high efficiency: using the least materials to sustain the higher load. By adopting appropriate method, we need to analyze and evaluate each fettuccine bridge's member's strength, tension and compression strength. For this project, we need to submit an A4 bound report about our fettuccine bridge, also including our individual truss analysis.

Through this project, firstly I had understand the load distribution in truss. I had learnt to identify the tension and compression members in a truss structure through the truss analysis calculation. Our group had explored different arrangement of members in a truss structure, and also the length and width of the truss members. Besides, I understand how the forces transfer from one member to another, and this theory can be applied in construction. Finally our group managed to get a strong structure with light weight.
For this project, we need to work in a group of 8 and obtain floor plan to maximum 3 storey bungalow. We are required to carry out structural framing and prepare structural drawings for the bungalow. Structural plans should include foundation plan, ground floor plan, first floor plan and roof plan. For individual components, each of us need to perform structural analysis of the bungalow. We need to identify and quantify the load acting on the structure, and produce 6 beams and 4 columns structure analysis. We need to produce an A4 bound report compiling both group and individual components.

Through this project, firstly I had learnt to identify the types of slab in the building. I was able to identify the structural components in S11 house. Besides from identify the type of slabs, I also learnt that every space have different live load and dead load. Next, I was able to calculate the ultimate load of a beam and columns. From there, I can produce load diagram, shear force diagram and bending diagram for the beams. This project really help me to understand a lot on the building construction. I can explain how the load are transfer in a house. I understand the concept of structural analysis and was able to produce a complete documentation on structural system of a building. I want to thanks to all my lecturers for teaching and guiding us through the semester.
