Thesis Statement
In Malaysia, we are going to be an aged nation by 2030. This grey tsunami are raising concern from the government as the ageing population being view as a burden to society, economy and country growth. However, elderly today are more healthy and capable to contribute their skills and knowledge. There is a need to rethink elderly facility to cater for intergenerational program and spaces, which empower elderly and instills good culture and skills in children since young.

The approach is to propose a new active ageing facility to serve the need of elderly, by integrating young generations into the site. The intention of creating intergenerational education and learning centre is to provide an active ageing facility for the elderly, at the same time provide young generations an opportunity to learn valuable life skills and tacit knowledge through experiential learning. Meanwhile, it provides relationship bonding and strengthen intergenerational ties between elderly and young generations. Both children and elderly can be a valuable asset to our society and nation.

The concept idea is derived from traditional courtyard houses where courtyard used to be the central space or served as a focal point of the house that allow people to gather, chit-chatting and carry out activities most of the time. The spaces are formed surrounding courtyard, linking from smaller courtyard to shared courtyard. Overlapping and interconnecting spaces create more interactive opportunities intended to encourage old and young generations to use the space as a group. The linkage of courtyard creates architectural-hug which gives the users the sense of being protected, symbolize the norm of grandparents nourishing their grandchildren.
